Research & Internships

To Chakana, collecting knowledge is very important. Our policies are always funded on research in the field, executed by ourselves or others. Chakana regularly sends students and researchers to the regions we work in. Also exchanging knowledge and skills are important within our organization. In order to stimulate the exchanging between the Netherlands and the Andes countries, Chakana sends interns that support our Bolivia team during several months.

Below you find an overview of the research executed by Chakana and our Dutch interns.

2008

  • Sander Mooij. Three months of voluntary work at Chakana Bolivia. 
  • Marjolein van Rijn. Four months of voluntary work at Chakana Bolivia, among which the organization of the annual symposium and support of monitoring and evaluation activities. 
  • Floortje Linnenkamp. Four months of voluntary work at Chakana Bolivia, research on the role of NGO's in Bolivian government policy. 

 
2007

  • Eefje Derix. Three months of research on needs and opportunities in 15 Achocalla villages. 
  • Alex van der Meer (Spain). Three months of research on needs and opportunities in 15 Achocalla villages. 
  • Remco van der Stap. Four months of market research on opportunities to commercialize products from the Achocalla valley. 
  • Sabina Gietema. Four months internship at Chakana Bolivia. Among others she organized the 2007 symposium, and she conducted two months of research on mircrocredit in the Achocalla valley. 
  • Christopher Basset (USA). Three months internship at Chakana in Bolivia. 
  • Huibert de Leede. Two months of voluntary work (administrative advice) at Chakana in Bolivia. 
  • Soledad Valdivia. Three months of internship at Chakana in Bolivia, in order to obtain her Bachelor title on Cultural Anthropology at the University of Leiden.


2006

  • Marlieke Kieboom. Six months of research on social exclusion and active civil participation in Cochabamba. 
  • Agnes Krijnen. Five months of research on integration of migrants in El Alto, in order to obtain her Master title on Social Geography at the University of Utrecht. 
  • Marjolein van Rijn. Five months of research on behaviour concerning health in El Alto, in order to obtain her Master title on Social Geography at the University of Utrecht. 
  • Sonja Bleeker. Four months of internship and research at Chakana in Bolivia. She researched social consequences of irrigation projects in the Achocalla valley, in order to obtain her Master title on International Land and Water Management at the University of Wageningen. 
  • Arjan Mossel. Three months of internship at Chakana in Bolivia, in order to obtain his Bachelor title on Language & Culture of Native America at the University of Leiden. 

 
2005-2006

  • Hindertje Heemstra. Four months of internship and research at Chakana in Bolivia. She researched the strategic social-political involvement of indigenous communities in the NGO network and in governemental institutions, in order to obtain her Master title on Development Studies at the University of Wageningen.

 
2005

  • Heidi van Hoof. Three months of research on local participation of young indigenous women in a small village on the altiplano in Achocalla, in order to obtain her Master title on Latin-America Studies at the Centre for Education and Development about Latin America (CEDLA) in Amsterdam.

 
2002-2003

  • Hilvert Timmer. Ten months of research on transformations of the highland indians' vision on the world after migration to the city of El Alto, in order to obtain his Master title on Social and Cultural Anthropology at the Vrije Universiteit van Amsterdam.

 
2001

  • Heidi van Hoof. Six months of research on gender and (national and local) politics in Cochabamba and La Paz, in order to obtain her Master title on Development Studies at the University of Nijmegen.
