Our Name & Logo

The name Chakana and the colourful logo are based on the symbol that has been used in the Andes for thousands of years. This symbol expresses the Aymara cosmological view in the most complete way possible. It represents the connection between the micro and the macro cosmos (vertically) and the male and female powers (horizontally). In daily life this relationship is expressed through values like reciprocity and complemetarity of man and woman, both at home and during work.

The Chakana foundation uses the chakana as its logo. Not only because of the great value the Aymara's attach to it, also because it resembles the vision of Chakana. We try to stand in the middle of the symbol: as a mediator between rich and poor, city and rural area's, national and local authorities, success and failure, survival and death, balance and unbalance. Also this correspondence and complementarity is represented in the range of cultural and professional backgrounds in our team.
