Towards a regional agenda for development

Chakana strives for strategic cooperation with other organisations, and especially with the authorities, in order to come up with a joint regional agenda for development. This way the development projects of different actors will be geared to one another, avoiding twice as much work, which is beneficial to all involved parties and communities. Too often Chakana finds that organisations approach their task in such an isolated fashion that some villages end up profiting from multiple projects where others are left without aid. Moreover, when projects are not geared to one another it often leads to an unnecessary and avoidable amount of work, which is a waste of effort and money. Instead, complementation between organisations leads to a greater impact for a larger region, while at the same time projects are more successful and more evenly spread over the villages.

Therefore, Chakana proposed to the local council of Patacamaya to plan a meeting for the locally active actors. At this meeting a regional development programme will be discussed wherein all programmes can be attuned to one another. A few of the expected organisations will be Save the Children, JICA, Sidel and Plan Bolivia.
