Education on natural pesticides

Many of the agricultural communities on the Andean Highlands suffer from plagues that threaten the harvest of different crops. With this threat, also food supplies for the communities are at stake. Communities often lack the knowledge to counter these plagues in a safe and sustainable manner.

The project to reassert the Andean traditions is being executed at this moment. In the communities Ayma and Piñani, Chakana recorded video material of a couple of impressive ceremonies. These two communities are being considered to be an example for the region.

Princess Máxima of the Netherlands will be present during the cultural evening on the 14th of October in The Hague, The Netherlands. The evening, titled ´Journey through the Andes´, is an initiative of Chakana Netherlands. The evening focuses on the Andean countries of Bolivia and Peru.

Completion of the textile project and anniversary of CPFOMAT

The textile project of Chakana in the region of Achocalla and Comanche has successfully been conluded. The ending of the project coincided with the 15th anniversary of the women organisation CPFOMAT with whom Chakana cooperated during the project. The completion of the project was celebrated with several festivities and an official programme in the centre of the village of Comanche.

Textile project increases income

As a result of the Textile Project in Achocalla and Comanche, 82 women are now working in the textile industry and earning an income that on an average, has increased to 21$ a month. One of the oldest participants shares her story… .
